Parent Support Meetings: You Are Not Alone
At Accessible Hope, we understand that parenting a child with challenging behaviors can sometimes feel overwhelming. You are not alone, and you don’t have to do this without expert support. That’s why we strongly encourage you to regularly schedule Parent Support Meetings with your child’s Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
What Are Parent Support Meetings?
These meetings are designed specifically to support you as parents in raising your child free from behaviors that interfere with learning, socialization, and daily living activities. Rather than viewing these sessions as “training,” we see them as opportunities to offer you meaningful support, encouragement, and strategies tailored specifically for your family.
Your BCBA possesses extensive expertise in child behavior and parenting strategies. During these sessions, you will gain practical tools, fresh ideas, effective strategies, and renewed confidence in managing challenging behaviors at home. Equally important, you will leave these meetings reassured and encouraged, knowing you’re supported by professionals who genuinely care about your family’s success.
Flexible, Convenient Scheduling
We respect your busy schedules, so Parent Support Meetings can be as brief as 15 to 20 minutes or up to an hour, depending on your availability and needs. These sessions can easily be scheduled at convenient times that fit your routine.
Why Parent Participation Matters
Individual therapy with your child is essential, and our RBTs and BCBAs work diligently on specific goals and objectives each session. However, therapy alone is unlikely to produce long-lasting change unless strategies taught in therapy are carried through at home. Effective communication between parents and therapists is crucial to making that happen.
Although daily notes provide snapshots of your child’s progress, they don’t capture the full picture. Regular Parent Support Meetings allow us to share detailed insights about your child’s therapy progress and, importantly, to hear about your experiences, concerns, and successes at home. This two-way dialogue helps us adjust therapy interventions to better align with your family’s unique needs and preferences.
Your Family, Your Decisions
We fully respect your choices as parents. Parent Support Meetings are not about prescribing specific parenting methods or techniques. Rather, they provide guidance and support tailored to your family’s values and goals. Our aim is always to partner with you, respecting your family’s autonomy, to facilitate meaningful, lasting improvements in your child’s behavior and overall family life.
Required by Insurance Providers
Parent Support Meetings, along with data collection at home, aren’t just beneficial—they’re often required. Insurance providers who authorize and finance your child’s therapy mandate documentation of consistent parent participation. Without clear evidence of your involvement, insurance companies may discontinue authorization for services. This involvement typically includes attending scheduled Parent Support Meetings and submitting consistent behavior data from home.
We’re Here for Your Family
We deeply value your active participation because we’ve seen firsthand the profound impact it has on a child’s progress. Please schedule your Parent Support Meetings regularly and reach out any time with questions or concerns. At Accessible Hope Therapy Center, we’re committed to supporting you every step of the way.
